Goodbye to a Dear Friend

We would like to thank you from the bottom of your hearts for the caring and loving way you treated our cheeky Billy at the end of his life.  We knew Billy’s time had come and had numerous talks with Kate about how we wanted to make sure that Billy wasn’t scared or in pain at the end.  Kate suggested that she came to us so that Billy would be comfortable in his own home.

The evening before Kate and Kerry came we went to Reculver Beach where Billy had one last paddle in the water (like all Labs he loved swimming), ate a Doggy ice cream, had a little beer, and watched his human sidekicks Megan and Emilia play on the playground.  It was heart-breaking to know it was his last walk with us, he was such a big part of our family.

Billy was the most fun loving Labrador, he was kind and loyal while also very cheeky!  No food ever reached the ground if ‘Stealth mode’ Billy was in the vicinity of the falling food.  Most of all he loved our daughters Megan and Emilia and could always be found near them, sometimes dressed up as Bat Dog or even a Princess!  Billy travelled far with us, hiking up mountains in Scotland, Wales, Austria and Germany and hiking in the Peak District, Dartmoor and all over Kent.  He just loved life and lived it to the max- he was a huge part of our family!

Kate advised us throughout the last couple of months of Billy’s life.  His back legs were getting worse and we didn’t want him to struggle or be in pain.  The before care was second to none and Kate always took the time to fully discussed and advise us of the options available.

Once we had reached our decision to sadly say goodbye to Billy, Kate arranged a convenient appointment time for us.  Kate and Kerry arrived and Billy was super excited to see them as he had met them a few times before.  It was a difficult time and throughout it Kate and Kerry were kind and understanding.  Billy passed away licking out the Peanut Butter jar and was unaware of what was happening.  Kate, Kerry, Neil and I sat with Billy in his last moment, stroking him and telling him how loved he was.  Through Kate we had arranged for Billy to be cremated- it made it so much easier during this time to have Vet2U arrange all of the aftercare and we didn’t have to worry about anything.

We cannot thank Kate and her team at Vet2U enough for the kind and loving service they provided- they really do care about all of the animals that they treat.  The in-home service gave us the chance to say goodbye to Billy in his home where he was comfortable.  Thank you for everything you did for us during this sad and difficult time. - Tracy
